Dear
Teachers,
This year,
the Gathering of Nations Pow Wow is scheduled for the fou rth weekend of April. The exact dates are April 25 & 26. The Gathering of Nations is the
largest "Gathering" of Indian tribes in North America; they gather for
the purpose of social and competitive singing and dancing. It is an event
celebrating culture and traditional pride.
Singers,
dancers and crafters representing over three hundred tribes come from throughout
the United States and Canada to participate. They travel great distances and
converge on Albuquerque, at the University of New Mexico Arena ("the
PIT") for this most festive event.
The
Gathering of Nations has developed instructional material for Elementary and
Secondary Schools to be used by teachers and students. We are inviting you to
take advantage of this unique learning experience by making plans now to attend
North America's BIGGEST Pow Wow.
Incorporating the lesson plans into
your schedule for April 2008 allows you and your students to study one more
aspect of Indian culture. The curriculum is designed to bring teachers and
students to the Pow Wow, allowing everyone to have a direct experience with the
people and their culture.
The lesson plans are available directly from the Gathering of
Nations. There is a $10.00 charge per lesson; Elementary or Secondary. The
minimal charge covers the following costs: printing, binding, postage and
handling. Please mail your request along with payment or purchase orders to: the
Gathering of Nations, 3301 Coors Rd. NW, Suite R-300, Albuquerque, NM
87120.
Friday, April 25, 2008 the Pow Wow begins at 12:00 p.m. (doors open
at 10 am). The afternoon sessions will feature the Grand Entry of all the
dancers, and competition dancing - the Junior and Teen categories. |
